Shaba Daba Doooooooooooooooooo

I might be late to the party but I’m gonna screenshot anyway. The full version of Sayu’s solo song is now online and it’s the visual equivalent of being given the keys to a sweetshop and total immunity from any costs incurred. H!P PVs are often called no frills affairs but there’s enough frills on Sayu’s costumes to make up for a decade of simple PVs. Not to mention so much charm, cuteness, beauty and lots and lots of props.  This is a really fitting way for Sayu’s solo pv to be. It doesn’t need any camera trickery, any interesting outdoor settings or even any other members (ignoring two brief cameos). Instead all it needs is Sayu, lots of cute outfits and lots of colour. Put those elements together and you nearly end up getting diaPVties. More sugary sweetness than in 25 truck loads of Coca Cola. And it’s perfect! Okay musically Sayu’s voice has always been cute but weak and I have to say her voice sounds extra weak here but it’s still a good song. I do wonder why her voice sounds quite as light as it does though as in previous solo songs or even in the Sayu/Reina-led Kare to Issho ni Omise ga Shitai! it’s sounded at least louder but I can live with it as it’s a really cute song. But oh the overall affect of the song and PV is just wonderful. So have some caps by way of demonstration…

It’s been a while since I’ve seen H!P use those lights that put a reflected shape in the eyes. It’s good to see them back!

The whole PV is just full of cute expressions!

The briefest of cameos!

Sayu doing some blowing. Make up your own jokes! >.>

Sayu has more cute expressions and poses than a group with six times as many members would (especially if the group was called S/mileage).

So much cuteness but also this lovely graduation style dress.

Lots of idols are cute and/or pretty but not many are cute, pretty and sexy too. And only one manages to combine all those things so perfectly in looks and personality . Sayu has always managed it so effortlessly. Oh look…legs!

A second and very cute cameo from the other sub-leader!

Oh look…legs! ^^

It’s such a fun PV and it even ends perfectly too. What better way than with a wink and a heart…

The whole PV is total perfection. It’s four minutes of Sayu being in turns cute and beautiful. What more could any Sayu fan want? The only problem is if you do overdose on the cuteness you need to watch something far less appetising to counter-balance the affects. Be careful as having to watch a S/mileage member for four minutes can be a terrifying experience. So please view responsibly!

Anyway after six and a half years of blogging I think I can safely say this has been the pinkest post I’ve ever made. That could only happen for Sayu. A gorgeous, funny, charming, sexy, caring and endlessly entertaining idol. Thank you Sayu for so many years of happiness! Morning Musume may continue to produce great songs and have great members but they’ll never have another idol as all-round entertaining and beautiful as you!

  1. I might prefer some other Sayu solos/duets/leads to Shabadabadoo, but I love it anyway. And how couldn’t I love something so Sayu-like? ♥ So many cute pink details in the PV and the subleaders are a fun addition to it. Also isn’t it nice how her idol career started with soap bubbles (shabondama) and now it’s ending with them as well? 🙂

  2. Great post, MT. I’m totally impressed with this song and PV and I think it’s a great final solo for Sayu. To be honest, I think her voice fits this song perfectly – she really did an excellent job here.

I should add that I really like all the songs from this single. After being relatively unimpressed with their recent releases ( and with H!P singles in general), I think Mikaeri Bijin is a great tribute song and the PV is quite nice too. TIKI BUN is my favorite of the three – I just feel like they really got it together this time around. Their outfits are awesome and it’s a great dance PV even if the set is a bit sparse.

As I’ve said a number of times recently, I’ve found their songs kind of bland. And I’ve been quite turned off by the overuse of the electronic voice modification stuff (don’t remember what it’s called). But I feel like they totally pulled up from the slump and got it together for a great final single for Sayu. After her incredibly long tenure in the group, I’d hate to see her leave on a weak note.

    • I’ve liked their recent sound especially going back to One Two Three and Wakuteka Take A Chance. I’m happy for a change in direction though as it’s been getting too predictable. I still need to listen to the other songs from this single as I’ve only heard them a few times each.

I hope this single sells well and Sayu goes out with a bang. She deserves a final number one.
